door latches from an OEM car

I got the Bear Claws with the installation plates, but I want to use my outside door handles. This looks like a lot of modification, plus the bear claws open too easy. That is great for electric actuators.

Has anybody used door latches from an OEM  car ? I have room for a fairly large lock.  
This is for my winter project, so I got some time to research the bone yards.

I used a set from a Ford Escort in my Studebaker.  It has been a long time now and I don't remember what year I used.  The were very compact and cleared everything in the door.  It has been about 20 years since I put them in, and Ken says they still work good.  Then went right where the stock latches were and I used the outside and inside handles to open them.  I think I had to build a sleve to adapt the sqare handle shaft to the latch.  The only other thing I did was use a selonoid to run the lock from the outside, should have spent the extra time to make the key work.  I put the inside lock pulls from the Escort on it.  Just had to drill the garnish molding to let the knob go through.  The Studebaker had the original setup where you pushed the inside handle foward to lock the door.
