This truck is for sale in El Paso, IL.  The sign says it's a canopy express.

Certainly looks to be rare, google threw up this http://www.classictruckshop.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/13

and a link to the same truck on stovebolt.com

I'm guessing they were for mobile sales ? ice creams / produce etc ?

Yes, Canopy Express is what the truck is. Not many around from what I have seen.

A fellow I worked with 20 years ago had one  in nice rust free shape.  His truck had a license plate mount that folded out as the tail gate was dropped.... the license plate was then still readable as the truck drove with the tail gate down.

He ended up selling it to Patrick of Patrick's Antique parts in Casa Grande AZ... Patrick flat towed the Canopy Express  away with one of his series 1 trucks and a tow bar

When I was a kid, there was an Italian family dow the street with about 20 children. Their "car" was a Canopy Express just like that one, down to the color. It was funny seeing it go down the street with kids hanging out of every window. I imagine it was a cold ride in the winter
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

The canopy express is probably the rarest of the production Advance Design trucks.  Anything rarer was probably coach built.  In truck circles the serious collectors seem to want them, but most the hot rodders (like me) don't see the point.
