53 Flathead, running two 60 yr old Holley 94's. Normally 17 city and 20 highway.
Original distributor.
Hasn't technology come a long way???????
Electronic ignitions, Computers and fuel injectors and rarely do you see anything over 20-22 mpg with aftermarket equipment.

I have a 383 with a 700R4, 3.89 gears and 30 inch rear tires. 2050 rpm @ 70 mph. I can get 19-20 mph if I drive it for mileage. That's not always easy to do.

I paid $4.01 yesterday. A high of $4.45 for 91 octane this year.

Correct that comment on how Edelbrock - and Holley from what I understand - jets the carbs . . . 5% rich and not 15% rich....

I get a whopping 11mpg pulling the tear drop. Just checked it going and coming from Louisville. I have a 355 Dhevy 600 Edelbrock carb and a 700r4 and 355 gears. I am changing to a 400 turbo and a add on overdrive unit.

By the way, that's in a '32 Ford coupe.

Why are you changing? I don't think you'll get any better mileage. TH400's take some H.P. to turn and you'll lose the low 1st gear.

My roadster (283 2BBL, TH400, 3.00 gears) will knock down 20mpg at 65-70 mph on the highway. It drops to about 17mpg on the streets or if I roll at 80-85 mph.

My coupe (built 327, TH400, 3.50 gears) usually gets around 12 - 13mpg running on 91 octane which costs $4.79 a gallon around here.

We are paying $1-70 a LT. Dose you price go up and down or is the same most of the time?

Don..I would think about that swap before you do it ..Your combination is very close to whats in my Olds & my mileage is LOTS better...I don't think your tear drop would make that much of a difference...Its not that heavy or "un-aerodynamic" ..... If anything, you should be getting better mileage with the 3:55 gears..With my 3:42 gear I'm almost "lugging" the engine at 65 MPH with the convertor locked....( It's my cam..) ..Something there does not sound right...
Just my .02....
