Have a GM van tilt column that I am trying to find out the year of. The only ID on the column is a sticker with the numbers " 7DZ 7827343 ".

Does anyine out there know what year it is out of?

Trying to narrow it down to get a steering wheel adapter.

Thanks for the help

If there is no key, it will be 71 to 79. Most likely 76 to 79. They all use the same wheel adapter.

Grant's Catalogue lists the following:

Prior to 1968   no kit listed
1968-69      # 3162
1970-75      # 3163
1978-81      $ 4198 for Tilt Columns only

After market columns   # 3169

That is why I am wondering what the numbers refer to.

The column doesn't have a key, is a column shift with a TH400 pattern, heavy shift lever with larger soft vinyl whift lever.

Looks like the 3163 might be my best bet and keep my fingers crossed.   :?

is there a parts number tag/tape still on the turn signal switch wiring..???

got a picture????

what does the gear shift quadrant look like... ... pics?????

Canuck

The gear shift quadrant is a simply designed cast painted cover over the plastic quadrant with a light in one end.  The shift indicator is a white plastic piece that is mounted in the indicator and slides into the lower part of the column.  Pattern is " P  R N D L2 L1"

There are no tags on the wiring, the only one was the one on the column with the numbers " 7DZ 7827343 ".   The wiring connector is the long ( 4 1/4") one.  Wires were enclosed in a snap on metal cover on the upper part of the column.

Another clue could be the "C" shaped quadrant in the turn signal mechanism, it is embossed with " D-8-67 ".  Possibly a design started in 1967??

Found one in my stash with the same tag on it, marked as 1974 by the junkyard

Thanks for the help.  Greatly appreciate it.

Will be ordering a adapter.  The column tubes have been shortened to fit in the A a bit better and clear the starter.  The end of the shaft has had the splines removed and a .75" DD machined on it.  Adapting to a interm shaft off a Astro van and connecting to a Saginaw box off a Malibu.  Should give nice smooth strong steering in the A.

Thanks again.  You are more than welcome to stop by anytime for a cool one.
