A friends wife sold a 87 escort wagon and the buyers put all new brakes on it and then let it get impounded and did not put the title in their name, the tow company called her seeing if she wanted it back so I told her I would pay the tow bill and use it for a daily driver.  I never though I would get a small car but with the price of gas I have to do something and since I wont have much in it I will drive it untill something major happens to it and then scrap it and get another cheap econobox.  Jeff

I understand..... we did this 2+years ago when gasoline prices went stoopid here.  I figured gasoline was not going to drop in price much ever.

We bought a VW Jetta TDi car when we off'd the Ford F-150 truck Janice drove. The Jetta gets  40 - 43 mpg every tank full.  Of course diesel fuel is about 35 cents more a gallon  than gasoline is now.

We will look at gasoline cars again when the Jetta is due for a replacement .  Jetta has 50k miles on it now, I will drive it till 100+ k miles or more.

We started driving the wife's Hyundai a lot last year. At almost 40 mpg it's worth it. And the miles on my Z71 Offroad are staying low.

hey cros, i don't know about the diesel vw's BUT the 2.0 gas burner t belts are dying way before the 90K interval.
read that as it takes out the head (about 4000 buck fix) but that's ok, i'm getting good at 'em
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it\'s still on my list

Having been a VW diesel owner, replace the Tbelt every 50,000 miles. I have the timing tools if you need them.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

I have read the VW timing lock  tools between some 4 cyl engines are different.

My diesel is the BRM motor.

I really wanted to get a mid 80s crown vic since they get great mileage for a full sized car but the escort will do untill I can find one.  Jeff
