Help! My parts chaser 1998 GMC Serra heat /defrost dampers have quit working.  They were slugish last week but then worked fine noe they will not move from the vent position. Are these vacuum pot or electric actuators? How deep do I need to go into the duct to try to fix this? Winter coming and will need the defrost.

Thanks
Tim

Tim, you might ask that question here:

I know I have read something about a fix for this! Involves going to radio shack a getting a part to solder in place. I think the factory replacement control is around $200. and the same thing can happen again. I looked for the link and could not find it. Those guys over at that fourm can lead you to it.

first check the vacuum sources under the hood...the little plastic supply tubes can melt and collapse blocking the vacuum from getting into the dash.. there may also be a vacuum storage tank under the hood somewere.. that feeds the stored vaccum to the temp unit so its not like vacuum wipers that slow down and stop on long uphills..

be sure to check the place where the vacuum connects to the intake.. it might have carboned up and that will also block the vacuum

some one may have also pulled off a vacuum hose or rodent or rat at his ate  way thought. i had one customer with a lizzard in her saturn one day  it took a week to get it out without killing it...sunning it's self on the dash then running when she came. she left strawberrys for it to eat.. and drove it back to where she got the car at to turn it loose after we captured it..
