Does anyone know of a cure for the crappy power valves that Holley puts in their carbs.  I know they appreciate the add-on sales they get when (not if) one starts leaking, but it's getting costly and I'd rather spend my time and money on other things :( .  Help!!!!!!!

I understand the new Holleys have a Power Valve anti-blowout gadget and the same or similar gadget is available as an aftermarket deal for the older Holleys.

Summit or Jegs probably carry them.

Are they leaking or are you using the wrong power valve?

The number on the valve referres to the amount of vacuum, in inches of mercury, that is reguired to keep it closed.

If your engine doesn't build sufficient vacuum, a 105 power valve, foer example, will "leak" whereas an 85 or a 65 might not because there's sufficient idle vacuum to keep it closed.

I've seen applications (Ian Shaw's T comes to mind) where something on the 0rder of a 25 power valve was needed.

About the only thing that'll make a Holley (or aftermarket) power valve go bad is a good backfire.  Are you experiencing backfires?

Hi Skip,

I have actually fixed it.  Yes it had backfired.  Yes I have since installed the power valve protector(Holley 125-500, about 12 bucks).  Yes I have switched to the 85 valve.  Drove it from KC to Springield and all around and back today with no problems.  I highly recommend the pv protector.  It sneezed at me once this AM (damp distributor I guess) but the p valve stayed intact.

Thanks everyone for all the good advice.
