I'm considering a spray/brush on insulation coating for inside my 47 Ford. I see ads for Lizzard Skin and Cool Car products.Any pro/con on either product or other suggestions? This car gets real hot inside when o/s temp gets around 90, much more than previous rods I've owned.I'm upgrading A/C to the largest Vintgage Air evaporator but you all know how it is;IF MAMA AIN'T HAPPY, AIN'T NOBODY HAPPY. And she ain't happy!

I used Coolcar and was pleased. I don't have any exp. with Lizardskin to know if it's better. I put Coolcar everywhere on the inside.

During the build of my 37 Couple we used Lizzard skin and sprayed every
place we could get too, and then went over it with Fat Mat... I can't report how everything works as I haven't drove the car much yet..

The HAMB is having a good discussion on insulation.

I used Cool Car on the inside of my 40 coupe then decided I wanted to do the underside and under fenders so I bought some Lizard Skin because it is available locally. Could not tell the difference. I used the "jute" backed foil stuff on my F100 and have been pleased with it. Although I used two layers of it since I installed it backwards the first time [foil to outside] so rather than pull that out I just added another layer with the foil to inside. Those Hamb guys may have it right, but I am not willing to gamble so I am adding B-Quiet to my 40. One of the cheaper Dyna-mat type products.

I doubled up on sound deadoning material and used BQuiet Ultimate covered by the foil-backed jute under the carpet in my '32. Nice and quiet, despite having rumbly DynoMax UltraFlow mufflers. No problems talking or listening to the stereo.

I,ve used the foil/bubble wrap stuff on firewall and have two sheets of a foil backed composition product Drake sells to use under carpet, I've read previous posts on Hamb discussing a product Home Depot sells that looks like Dynamat but consenus is it is asphalt based and will stink when hot.

I have been hangin' out a diesel forum. These particular motors are noisy and they guys are having a problem hearing themselves think in the cabs. Attached is a link to a sight that has some super sound deadening information. This sight was concerned about the big sterio insulation but the principle is all the same. It's long but good info.

I used the B-Quiet ultimate in my coupe and it worked great.  I put a double layer under the seat because my Flowmaster mufflers are right under there, and it seems to keep the floor cooler and the noise down pretty good. It's pretty much the same stuff as Dyna Mat but not as expensive. Just punch B-Quiet in a search emgine and they'll come up - I think in Alberta.

A follow up on spray on insulation. This past weekend a friend was over who has a brother in the paint shop supply business. He had a sample mill thickness gauge he borrowed from his brother. A $700 piece so we were very carefull with it. We measured the thickness of the Lizard Skin on my 40. The inside, which I had sprayed by a body shop that does it on a regular basis, varied from 10 mils to 20 mils. the underneath that I sprayed was about the same. Neither side close to the 40 mils they recomend. The shop used two, 2 gallon  buckets on the inside of my 40 coupe. I used about 3/4's of a 2 gallon bucket underneath. My friend had just finished "rolling" on three coats to get to 40 mils. Just posting this info for those who may use it in the future. Without one of these gauges I don't know how you would find the correct 40 mil thickness.

Here's a link about a low-buck alternative to Lizard Skin and Cool Car http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/alternative-lizard-skin-103610.html .  According to the discussion the dead air space in these products seems to be provided by "ceramic microspheres".  The stuff is available from model airplane suppliers because it's used to make ultra-light body filler in that hobby.  Mix it in the right proportions with exterior latex house paint and voila!  Paint-on heat insulation on the cheap.  There's a lot of reading involved, but it gets pretty indepth into things like proper mixing ratios, under and over coating, and the need to not breathe in the microspheres as they carry on the air like an ultrafine dust.

I coated the inside of the cowl, the firewall, and the inside of the top with home made coolcar. I bought two  bags of the microspheres from the place listed in Hotrodders.com topic. I bought Ramaudio mat and put it all over the back and the floor. It was the best buy in the sound deadener shootout. I'm at least a month away from driving to tell you if I was successful  or not.

Like "Rummrumm" I used the Bquiet ultimate in my coupe and roadster and it seems to work great, and it's cheaper than the same stuff from "well known" dealers. It's sticky ( VERY!) on one side and it's like thin tar with foil top. Molds easy too. I plan to use it on my 40 pickup too.
