Will it hurt a Ford C-6 trans to run without the kickdown linkage?

no.........if you do not have a high HP motor, the vacuum modulator will raise the line pressure as vacuum drops.

the trans shift timing may be goofy at certain throttle openings.

How about a 429 with approx 400 h.p.? If it matters it's in a light vehicle, about 2,000# In the test drives I've done in it the 1-2  shift comes really late, but i'm not sure if it has the correct modualtor in it. I needed a new one and none of the "chain" parts stores around here had a clue, and the one real parts store got me the one they said was for the  trans which is a truck trans, but I'm not sure of the year, someplace between '70 and 79!

Tony, does the same go for a 350 turbo?

yes with the same comment on upshift timing.  The cable will delay upshifts under a heavy throttle .
