Charlie Chops 1940

Finished plugging the 4th gear pressure tap on the side of the 700R4 yesterday and lacking the parts to do the lockup inside the tranny as some have suggested I rigged another microswitch on my B&M shifter to lock up the convertor when the shifter selects 4th gear. Works just fine although I now have to manually select 3rd to unlock the convertor. I'll drive it that way for a bit and see how much of a PITA it is and go to the other mods if I don't like it.

The best part is that the leak fix campaign is done. After I took it out for a 10 mile run this afternoon I parked it on a fresh hunk of cardboard and there wasn't drip one after a couple hours. One thing for sure, I'll never use an external pressure switch for convertor lockup again. I can't tell whether the brass reducer was cracked before I broke it off or if the pressure switch sprung a leak, or both.

So, time to move on to more motoring pleasure.

If you are going to have to manually select between 3rd and 4th why not replace the microswitch with a toggle or push on-push off?

Not as much work as rowing the shifter back and forth.

Point taken Sum. I'll give it a little time and see.
