About 7 weeks ago I had corrective laser surgery on my eyes.  Since that time I am now 20/20 in my right eye , 20/25 in my left. I was farsighted in both eyes, a heavy astigmatism in my left eye too.

I still need magification for close up work. This is age related , your eyes do not flex easily to focus on close up items as they age.

I found this site on line: http://safetyglasses.com/

They sell bifocal safety glasses.  I bought three different frame types with a 2.0 magnification spot on them.  I use these at work or home and I am real happy with them.

Some folks here on the RRT are my age or older.........   , I thought this was worth the mention.

Back to the eye surgery...... to answer the usual questions I get;

Yes,  I could have had surgery for what is called 'mono vison' .  one eye is corrected for close up use, the other at 20/20 for distance.  I did not want this.

I could have had my eyes over corrected at 20/15 for close up stuff.  I did not want this.

I can now drive , ride the motorcycle, watch TV  etc.... with no glasses on. It is freaking great!

For computer work or reading I use some cheap wally world glasses with a 2.0 maginfication , they work great.

I went to the eye doctor the other day and after he got finished, he said: "You know what we are fixing to talk about? Bifocals." I knew it was coming. I have to have presciption safety glasses with my job when I have to go to certain places on the yard and in the plant. The good news is that the company I work for picks up part of the cost. They are also very good to have while working on the car and such away from work. I am still waiting for them to come in. I will see how long it takes for me to get used to them.

A street rod is a vehicle made before 1949 that is modified with modern stuff: bigger motors; newer trans; updated suspension, front & rear; a/c.
Following is a street rod plus definition: No known definition because it changes.

I guess that I'm lucky in the sense that my company buys me a pair of safety glasses every year at work, plus they give me a pair of lenses for home use; all I have to do is pay the $15 for the frames.  I also use a set of stick-on bifocal lens on a larger pair of plastic safety glasses.  I bought these at Walgreen's, but don't remember the cost, but it wasn't much.  You can peel them off to put on another pair of glasses.

I use the Mozilla Firefox browser on this computer. It will upsize the whole screen / font size. I look over my glasses to the screen , look through the glasses to type.

Phil.... I looked for the stick on magnifers here. Did not find them. When I looked for bifocal safety glasses all I heard was: " they make those?"

I found a pair of 2X magnifying half glasses that I use for close work. They work good because I can look over the glasses to see to walk.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

On some discussion boards I found the windows explorer would only enlarge the upper part of the board, not the actual posts.  The Firefox stuff increases the whole screen font size.  Photos stay the same size.

Tomslik....... yes on the natural light thing or a good flash light.

After my corrective eye surgery I have the 'halo effect' on lights at night to a slight degree at this point. Red colored  lights are the worst.

My alarm clock in the bedroom is a red colored display. it is blurry to read in the dark.  Our stove has the same type & size of display in a green colour. I can read the stove clock easier in the dark.  Not enough room in the bedroom to move the stove in there.  :?

Yeah, getting old sucks. I keep a pair of reading glasses at work, in the garage, on the kitchen table, by my home computer, in the bathroom. The only thing I can read on the newspaper is the headlines. When I complained to my eye doc, he said "welcome to old age". Thanks, doc. He told me to go the the local drugstore and buy some cheap reading glasses, so that's what I did. A bunch of times. I am going to check out your link. I always wear safety glasses, and I keep having to switch from my reading glasses back to safety, back to reading.....
