I don't get to work on cool stuff like Tony and Sean and some of
the rest of you folks, but sometimes I get to do some really cool stuff
at work. Today was one of those days.
delivered a baby girl this morning about 7:45 am  :D
somewhere on I-40 between Georgia street and Coulter street.
Mom had been in labor about an hour before calling EMS.
she weighed 6 lbs 9 oz.
about 19 inches long.
cord was wrapped once around the neck, luckily not too tight.

Mom and baby are doing fine.

I should quit shaking sometime tomorrow

only the second field delivery I've had in 17 years as a field Paramedic.

sometimes I got a great job  :D

Sounds pretty cool to me. :D You made a difference in those peoples lives today.

At one time, I considered EMS as a career, but decided I wouldn't be able to handle it if I had to see somebody I knew mangled up in a car wreck. I have lived in this area for my entire life and the chances of that happening would be pretty high...

Congrats!  I hope that things like this help balance out the other things that people in your postion have to endure...

I feel for the kid. Imagine, nine months in the oven and the first thing she sees when she pops out is your ugly mug.

It takes a real special person to be an EMT, thanks dude.

Kinda disappointed they didn't name her after me  :?
thats ok. as long as she is healthy, guess I did my job.

This makes up for all the nasty stuff I get to see on a regular basis.
guess every job has its ups and downs.

Congrats.  I understand your feeling as I delivered 3 while with the San Diego County Ambulance Association ...1965-67.  One was as we raised the gurney to go inside at County Hospital ER.  The delivery was "by the numbers" but after I felt sweaty and hot and started shaking.  The guy that trained me had delivered 38 including 2 sets of twins.  Think the docs are getting a lot better because you seldom hear of outside deliveries any more.  It's an experience you'll never forget!  Great Job.  Cal
