Ahh. Sanity at last. I was running out of ockerisms.
Except:-   over here we call an aluminium (sic) foil boat, a tinny...
Thinks: I wonder how many prawns you get in a tinny? That'd taste nice.
As long as you had enough tequila....

klassik

In melbourne a tinnie is a can of beer,

Also a small alluminium boat.

But mostly beer  :D
Before you criticise anyone walk a mile in their shoes, then you will be a mile away and you will have their shoes

So how many prawns DO you get in a tinny? I bet i can get more in a tinny than you...

Just wait till the yanks wake up...

For the Americans, please: no disrespect. By "wake up", I am referring to the time difference.

LOL

Just a brief explanation for the Americans (did I thank you for hosting this?):  Just as there are differences between Americans and Australians, there are differences between Melbournians and people.

Nothing wrong with me, I'd never put prawns in a tinnie, for one it's spoil the beer and if I were meaning the sailing tinnie, well, we use Trevally for bait, not prawns, coz the big fish really don't like to bite on puny little sea critters.

Yup, Melbournians do seem to have a higher intellect than other people who inhabit this country.  And.... we are also quite partial to barbequed Prawns.

And before any of you smarty pants northern inhabitanmts try to come the raw prawn, just check your aussie dictionary.  The reason we don't BBQ shrimp down here is because they are so small the'd fall through the grill and become charcoal.  Prawns on the other hand are large enough that thay can be coocked on the barbvie quite easily.

Prawn =  the larger of any of a group of shrimp like animals, some of which are edible.

Shrimp = small, edible marine shellfish, considered a delicacy.

And as usual some of you geniuses have neglected the real coloquial meaning of the words 'Shrimp' as used to describe a small or unimportant person.

May I cordially request that you blokes cease and desist from attempting to confuse the 'murricans with our version of the Imglish langwige.  They are confused enough already, just trying to prounounce the name Garth correctly.
