Hearing test by an audiologist this morning. Costco store today. My last test was 9 yrs ago , also a Costco store.

I wore a test pair of Costco aids around the store for 20 minutes. My brain was adjusting to them and the stuff I was hearing was better.  These new design aids are light years ahead on the units I have now. Actually I only have 1 hearing aid. The left side aid broke about 1 yr ago. I tried to find parts, but ppl wanted silly money for parts.

I got Phonak brand from the VA a couple of months ago.   They are rechargeable and they bluetooth to my Iphone.  They have improved my hearing but it is different than I expected.  I hear sounds that I could not hear in the past but I still miss some words in conversations and on the tv.  Overall they are still worthwhile.

I finally convinced my audiologist, and the tech on his phone, that there was something wrong with my in the ear aids last week.  They muted each side individually, and the right one would make a buzzing sound, like people were talking through a kazoo. He sent them in for repair, and will let me know when they come back. He extended the trial period.  He said if they still don't sound good, he has different brands.  These are Unitron.

After wearing in the ear, my behind the ear really feels clunky. When the VA gave me my first pair in 2013, I had asked about in the ear, and she told me that I wouldn't like them, because I would feel stuffed up.  Not so.

Phil , John :  I watch a fellow on Youtube that is local Phoenix AZ..  Doctor Cliff. Seems smart, honest. He explains how Costco supplies aids at lower cost.  1 year old tech , with a few features deleted or not turned on in software. What he says makes sense.

I would miss words in conversation or TV.. With the TV DVR device I have replayed a section 2 - 3 times to understand what was said. Then my wife speaks up: tells me what was said on TV. Since then:  I have used the closed caption on TV full time for about 2 yrs.

These 10.0 Costco aids are rechargeable, have the bluetooth, adjustable volume via phone app. I can alter the aid programming a bit too.

The audio tech has spec'd these aids with closed ear rubber domes. My previous aids were open fit. I received natural sounds and the enhanced sounds from the aids. If the closed ear domes do not function well, I can change to open fit domes for a trial run.

The reason with closed ear domes is an attempt to filter out some background noise. My ears pick up low frequency stuff well. Car traffic noise, tire noise, the general background noise in crowded places.  Most non hearing aid wearing folks do not understand that the aids can not simply isolate voices or other needed sounds

Tony, I hear what you're saying (no pun intended).  I think the VA does the same as Costco with older technology.  I tried Costco for a while, but returned them before the trial ended, as they were about the same to me as the VA aids.  When I've had hearing tests done and the tech says a word and I have to repeat it, I'm surprised at how many words I misunderstood, so I'm in the same boat as you.

The Unitrons are the latest devices, and I had 4 different programs; auto, in crowded enviroments, auto/plane and tinnitus.  I could switch between them either with the phone app or just tap the volume button on the aid. If I tap the button, the volume changes, but if i hold it for two seconds, it changes the program, each program having a different amount of beeps.  On my present aids, I only have volume up or down.  They work well, but are not as convienent in operation. I just hope the new ones come back working as they should.

In a couple more years, I will be eligible for new aids from the VA. I will ask if I can get ITE instead; if not, then I will stay with buying my own.

We've been using closed caption for a couple years.  Yeah, another problem with CC is that sometimes it lags the picture by a couple seconds, which makes it totally unusable.

I finally got to try out my new bead blaster made out of a modified Harbor Freight sand blaster. It does a very nice job, and works quickly. I have a couple leaks, my fault, I should have sealed the lights better. It's no big deal to fix it. The glass leaks a bit too, it needs a better rubber seal. It was damaged during the rebuild.

Yes! I had the same type of word repeat  test.  I did not score well on it.  :o

Might be a little off topic but I met my newest customer yesterday and it went real well. Guy knows what he wants. We are slightly raking the new roof and leaving the "flip up" at back of bed. The man claims this was the first Nomad done like that. Plenty are out there with truck roofs. Anyway it was "built" twice in the last 65 years by his Dad. Doing rockers now and think one B pillar is too far from center going by evidences. But I'm happy to say that in this case my imagery did come in handy as a decision tool. :)

Oh and theres a chassus loaded with C4 stuff to go under it when done. Owner wants the car to be around for another 65 years, and not be something needing work.

A boothful of Model A parts got shot too.

Frank,  Is that conversion using the stuff from Mike Tacoma?  I converted my blaster 10 years ago or so and really like how it works.  I met him at a Good Guys event in Spokane, never have seen him at anything since.  Doug

Yes but I made all the parts myself, except the gun.

I finished welding my three point crane yesterday, and spent today cleaning it up and started painting it. I'll post the finished product in the next couple days I'll also post the bead blaster.

Its been difficult to buy diesel oil for my truck.  Any diesel oil on the shelves here in Arizona is amazing. The shelves are empty for months.  I just bought some quarts of Royal Purple diesel oil on Amazon a week ago. It was cheaper to buy the quarts of oil than the gallon jugs

Yeah, it's weird. MY wife buys 2 pint containers of ice cream, because it's cheaper than one quart.

I've been getting frequent headaches since around 2013. Va sent me for an mri. Neurologist said nothing wrong, neuro surgeon said the same. Grrrr. In 2019, I went to a different neurologist. He said I was getting migraines. Sorry, no.  This year, I asked my dentist, he said it could be jaw related, sent me to a tmj dentist who flaked out on me.  I called another tmj dentist on my own, and went to see him. He checked me out and told me he thought it was more a nerve problem, and referred me to a chiropractor in Peoria.  Went to see him today. Took some Xrays and poked around a bit, called another in who agreed with him, then laid me on a table and 'thunked' me about five times on my first vertabrae with an electric thingie, which he said was slightly crooked.  Come back Thursday and we'll look again.

We were at a mobile home parts place today. In Surprise AZ..  Elderly fellow in a new GMC diesel truck rolls in to a parking spot. I had backed my dually out of the parking spot & was waiting for this fellow to get out of my way so we could leave.

He obviously slipped the truck into neutral , not park.  Slight incline to the parking spot and the GMC started to roll backwards as we watched. After 10 feet or so he finally noticed the truck was rolling backwards. We are still sitting there waiting for him to get the H out of my way. He drops the GMC into gear and lurches forward hard enough I though the truck was gonna hit the building. It did not hit anything. He put the GMC in park this time.

I keep reminding myself that I hope I notice my abilities are going away and need to stop , change my path , something?

Tony, that ended better than I was expecting. Years ago, one of my older friends remarked that if you take the car away from old people that it was the beginning of the end. He said " they can't walk so they drive". There is some truth to that. Mental acuity needs to be taken into consideration.
