2021: What are you doing today

Spent time on the harley chopper project . Cut down and moved the rear fender to its final position and got it welded on . Bolted the rear caliper mount on so brakes are done except for plumbing . Have to weld up holes in rear fender where there has been a change in plans about signal lights . Still have to move the fuel tanks back about 2" as there is still not enough turning ability as the springer front has no offset between the neck and the forks , they are in line , making the forks touch the tank before there is a decent turning angle . Will have to modify the seat pan as the tank move and rear fender placement have cut in on the room for the seat .

Interesting past week...  On eBay.  I had another USPS Priority Mail package go missing for 3 days. Then it's tracking location was off a bit , but it was delivered.

2nd eBay item was a rear planetary uniit for a thm-400.  I mixed up a couple photos of planets on the listing. Over the years GM used different style of parking lugs (long, short, split) on the exterior of the planet housing. The buyer sent me photos and said the planet did not match what his thm-400 had inside.  I explained the planet was fine and would work.....At the  end of the day: I issued him a full refund and told him to toss the planet in the trash.  That was the last planetary unit I had on my shelf.  LOL

A side line note about my former employer:  I received text messages tuesday.  It seems the last guy in the transmission dept that has experience building over drive transmissions of any brand turned in his 2 week notice of leaving the company.  :shock:  :shock:

I have no intention of returning for a 3rd rip of working there.  :lol:

I removed the rear end from the crown vic chassis that donated it's drivetrain for the 72 F100. The narrowed front suspension is from it. I'm going to look it over to see if cutting it up and trying to save some parts of it has any merit. If not, it's going to my friends scrap pile. Less stuff to mow around this summer. :) In looking over the bare frame, it's very well engineered. There is nothing thick on it. There are geometric shapes and some overlaps in a few places that I think may have been just to enable production operations to be more efficient. Happy April 1st to everybody. In my world we're getting closer to warm weather. :)

We're going outside to watch the Starlink satellites go over again. We watched them the last time they paraded across the sky. There were about 60 last time, I don't know how many tonight. Can you tell we don't have much to do in central IL?

Told my welding kids today that due to the new carbon tax in Canada , if they light a torch and its too smoky Ill have to charge them a dollar. They believed me. let them know it was bogus later on in the class. Had a kid in machine shop try to pick up aluminum with the rolling magnet sweeper . Told him if he flipped it upside down and walked backwards it should work . It didnt  :shock: Its not just kids these days . 25 years ago I got 18 kids to sign up to be a driver for a front engine jet car in under 10 minutes . There was an illustration of the car at the top of the sign up sheet ! :lol:

I was working at a Ford dealer in the late sixties. One day the shop foreman sends the bosses kid up the street to a body shop, and ask to borrow his sky hook. The kid comes back with a half gallon of thinner. He said that the body guy told him to drop a lighted match into the can, and he wouldn't need a sky hook.

He owns the business today. Good kid actually.

I went out to the shop today to work on the T. All I got done was fine tuning the firewall template and trim it to pattern making size.  I also reinstalled the trans crossmember after finish welding the mounting ears.  The body is now centered and positioned and bolted to the frame so next on is the firewall fitting, Front Floor, Brake pedal and steering and Shifter. Oh I can't forget E brake.  For all of the above I need the Engine and trans in place Again!!!  So dang there is an awefull lot of things to stuff into a tiny place as a TCoupe. Steering is going to be Fun!!! There is just no room.. Gonna be tight.  I am NOT looking into shoving the engine trans back into the chassis again.  My Bad shoulder is acting up again and it makes manhandling things like a engine/trans combo a real pain!! I sure wish I new a few rodders in this part of the land. I could enlist a crew to do this engine trans swap in. So in the mean time I will watch late at night for some friendly shoemaker elves!  8)

Rip, if I zinged you honest and for true its the first time I ever "got" anybody on April Fools. Your reply was magnificent. 8)  If they still did fake gunfights at old west theme parks and such, we'd have us good summer jobs. What with knowing some right words to brace one another with and all. :wink: Now draw! Remember when Bugs told Yosemite Sam to draw and he whipped out pencil and paper? That was funny, he drew a gun. :lol:

Big ol boy I worked with in TX used to do gunfights at Six Flags. He said they used home made blanks by topping up .45s with black powder using plain primers... just scoop the cartridge full, knock off what piles up on top and pass it three times through a styrofoam cup. That was the amicable recipie the gunfighter actors settled on. They'd leave a mark less'n you's five paces off or better. :shock:  But the smoke was satisfactory that way. :)

Just came through for a laugh, I am kinda in the same boat. I gotta recenter the piston in my dual master cylinder without assistance somehow. Maybe my little bottle jack, hmm. But! Got called away to immediate suprise Easter doins in the next county just now and must scramble to attend. Needed to take these moments to write and bend back the mood damage that comes with family scrapping a Saturday for me. Thats catastrophic for full timers.

When I got the text I was just about to type something like could you use a couple templates of the trans to do the floor part and are you familiar with the "steer clear" thingamabob like on Pugsy's '41? Just thoughts, wanting to help. I probably already said all that and forgot. Every other time I try something yelp ow no turn that hand and try another way so I'd be a whiny assistant if I was there. We'd stab it though, if we had a bottle of rye.

I'm sorry I'm so boring. I did yard work again today. I expect the EPA to investigate why all the weeds have died.  :lol:

I participated in a drag and drive event this weekend.  We ran last night at the local drag strip then I drove the 460 Ranger about 250 miles today and returned to the drag strip. 9mpg @ at a little over $3 a gallon.  It was worth every penny.  The truck did fine but it was a little slower.  Traction was poor, and I had a slight miss that was noticeable over 5000 RPM.  I will need to look at the plugs and the tune.  It was good to get out and visit with people and do some car stuff.
