Listening to a co-worker thursday as he B'd & Moaned about things in his life. He wants to change directions in his job - career path.

He is 50 yr old and does not want to be building transmissions when he is 55 years old... as I stand there at 67 yrs old and retired once in March 2020 only to return in July 2020 for 90 - 120 days. That was 6 months ago.

I told him his path was his choice and it was not always easy to change directions.

I retired late 2014 after 40 years and 2 days. I'd had enough, and don't work for anyone now. It's a very good feeling, Tony.

Dave, I made 1 long spacer that you can cut to length.
This is what blind guys need to do machine work. Every time I use the dro, I just smile. I wish I would have purchased them years before. They used to be a lot of money, then. :)

Sold some equipment today. Craigs List. My first ad was not online for more that 8 minutes and a spam text message came in. Bad English grammar, New York area code phone number and all.

I had a clothes washer I set at the street and placed a ''phree, come and get it" ad on Craigs List.  Emails came in asking various questions. "does it  work?" " Will you deliver?" "Will you hold it for me?"  Answer was no to all of them. About 1.5 hours and it was gone.

young fellow bought my steam cleaner. He is a welder (looked like it).. he buys old equipment and refurbish  them for himself or sale.  He asked if I had any other equipment for sale.  So: I showed him the inside of my shop and gave him prices on items from my lathe, 16 inch disc sander to air compressor.  His eyes were very large and told me he would call me saturday.  I guess we will see.

I knew (my wife knew too) when I retired last year and she was 15 months from retirement that I would get bored , yet had 35 things that needed done , finished  or  started then finished.

Friend of mine does not understand why I am not in the shop 18 hours a day working the project cars...  it is simple.

He spent decades managing tire - wheel warehouses or tire  shops selling stuff. Sitting mostly at a desk on a phone or 2... I spent the same decades turning wrenches on vehicles of some shape or size.  Cars to medium duty trucks, some small engine powered equipment, transmissions.  The last thing I want to see some days when I come home is another car to work on.

I took the block I was putting a deck plate in to a machine shop to have it decked last Thursday. They thought it may be done this afternoon. I am anxiously waiting for their phone call. I'm a pessimist. I'm betting it will be several days before I hear from them

After 21 years, I have my 69GP trained. Yesterday it needed brake, steering, and trans fluid. And gas. But all at the same time. Atta girl. She went flawlessly though. Chirping second all over town and saw redline and everything. Used her enough to run the rust off the pulleys. Boy I needed that. Strong medicine! Did not bother the GTP all weekend, had outings in the cheerful but lonesome GT. Meanwhile, the fix list does grow on the 'P. I just about need to do a mini-resto on it.

LOL, up a my deer camp, in the U.P., there was an old farm by camp that had tons of old cars, trucks, tractors, etc. on it. Out behind an old Kaiser the was the back corner of a 49-51 Ford sticking out to of the ground, exactly like that picture, I always wondered how much car was attached to it. 😄 I couldn't budge it.

Years ago my grandfather had a place just south of Atlanta Mi. It was all dirt roads to get to it. There was a farm on that road that had three 36 Fords in the yard. A two door sedan, a four door sedan, and under a lean-to a Cabriolet. All three appeared to be in running condition. There was usually an old couple sitting on the porch and we would wave as we went by. After some time it appeared that the old couple died, and the cars were still there but the tires were flat and some of the glass was broken.

Those cars were there from the late 50s to well into the 80s. Every time you went by more and more small parts were missing. The cabriolet was the first to go missing, the two door next, and eventually they were all gone.

That was about a half mile from my grandpa's place. On the back of his property I found a Complete Model A sedan completely disassembled down to the last nut and bolt. All that was missing was every fastener on the car.   I dragged all the pieces home, and parted it out.

We had to hand carry all of it out to the road by hand. Me, my brothers, and my uncles, it took us the better part of a day. Brought it home in my uncles 18 wheeler.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

In my part of the world, I used to find partially buried bodies left over from the dirt storms of the early 50's. Most had plenty of other damage. With the land becoming more valuable to farm, those are all gone. Just another part of our history that I doubt will repeat itself. :)
