I started converting my 460 Ford to a rear sump with the Ford racing kit that includes the pan and oil pickup .  There are no instructions included.   After I removed the pan I discovered that the oil pump will not work as the pickup tube that I have will not bolt to the front sump pan pump.  I have been told by a neighbor that I need a truck oil pump.  Will I also need the drive shaft for the truck pump or are the drive shafts the same for the two pumps ?

You have the Ford part number for the pan? There are several it could be, and they don't all use the same parts.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

Does this mean you found a title for the ranger? GPster

Pan came as a kit from Ford that included the pan, pickup, dipstick, and a gasket that has to be modified before it can be used.  No instructions and there are no instructions available from Ford.

A quick look at Oreilly's and they show two Mellings.  One is a high volume.  I wonder about using the high volume?

Quote from: "kb426"I found this:
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1974,f-250,7.5l+460cid+v8,1122905,engine,oil+pump,5564

The M84DHV is the high volume with the shaft included.  Thats the one I am leaning towards.

I am going to try to call the Ford Racing tech line and see what they say.

I am paranoid about ruining a new engine with a wrong part.

Ford racing tech guy says not to use the high volume pump as it will interfear with the oil pan I am using.  He says the drive shaft for all the big block pumps are the same.  He gave me the Melling number M84D as the pump to use.

I will see if the parts store has one.

Thanks for the assistance.

I am still waiting on the title Joe.  I will need the rear sump pan on the engine for most vehicles that I would want to use this engine.  So I thought I would get the engine ready even it the Ranger title does not show up.
