Does anyone know if the newer gm starters can be used on an older (1970s) 454.  It has 168 tooth flywheel and staggered bolts.  I was thinking one of the 8.2 starters might work.  Also, if it would work, what year should I tell the parts house guy?  I wasn't paying attention on the Olds when i fired it and the starter was stuck to the flywheel.  Looks like I toasted it while I was breaking in the cam.  Currently it is an old style gm starter.

Thanks

6449 or 6407 starters should have a chance of working properly..

Duralast Starter : Part number DL9990S This product is a fit for your: 2002 Chevrolet MD/HD Trk C7500 Kodiak C7H042 8.1L MFI OHV 8cyl
Part Number: DL9990S  is the autozone version of the starter number..

fits Various GM's back to 1994...

96 to 2000 tahoe.. 5.7.. so they should be really easy to get..

warning.. these come with 10MM holes for the Metric starter mounting bolts..

if your block uses SAE 3/8-16 bolts its going to be loose..

the starter centers on the knurled area of the bolt.. that actually fits into a counter bore in the block

putting a metric starter bolt into a block drilled and tapped for 3/8 will split the corner off the block ruining it.
