A 93 yr. old retired power plant was imploded here today. They had been dismantling it for about a year, it was about a third bigger. It has stood on the lower level 'stilts' for months while they removed asbestos. My wife's uncle worked his whole working life there as did many locals. The video was taken from Canada, across the St. Clair River, about a half mile away. The smoke and dust drifted across the river, I bet the Canadians were happy!

UGLY OLDS

So little time to destroy what took so many a long time to build ...... :(

It was time for it to go, it had been idle for nearly 15 years, two newer power plants were built about ten miles south, my wife's brother just retired from one. The old plant sat on some extremely valuable land, being right on the river. They are planning some condos, shopping and a park there.

So easy to get it all down on the ground where it can easily be hauled away.

I see around 9 power plants are closing soon in Michigan due to inability to comply with new EPA regulations so there will probably be more demolitions in the future. I just heard that a plant in Muskegon is closing this week. Times are a changin'...
