I'm glad to see your updates again. I've been considering the possibilities of a 2 door Maverick lately. I had no idea how similar these cars were, maybe one of the first applications of the "platform" concept. The Torino is 13" longer in wheelbase, 22" longer in overall length, 4" wider, and 1.5" taller...and several hundred lbs heavier. Maverick's aren't everywhere, but nothing else old is either...and they're way cheaper than Mustangs or even Cougars.

Good luck in the search Jaybee. I have a buddy that just picked up a pristine Comet. Factory 302 with a 4 speed.

I spent some time today working on the tail panel some more. I still have a some pin holes that I either need to chase or cut out a long strip and behind the bumper.

Many are the times I have attacked rows of pinholes with a 1/8" drill bit and dots. Ice pick to find the ones that haven't gone quite through yet. Hope it goes (or went) your way. :)

Thanks for the inspiration Matt. :)
I decided to take a break from the that area for a bit and get the ugly removed form the frame shops repair.
I made a template from the right hand side and started forming the new part up.
Stripped the old metal off so I can straighten the back of the frame rail and make it look correct again.

Applause. The end of that trunk rail looks like Columbo"s cigar, downright shaggy.

We don't smoke anymore so I had to get rid of the cigar end.
Did some cutting, hammering and lots of welding today. Need to do some more grinding one patch on the side of tank drop down yet and I am done with that area,

And another one down.
Once I get my order of grinding disc in I may need to go back and touch up a spot or two but the trunk floor is now done with patching.

Good quality work.

Have you considered putting a solid or nearly solid bulkhead between the rear seat and trunk? I've done some reading on efforts to stiffen up these rather flexible bodies. According to people who've tested efforts to increase torsional rigidity that's one of the most effective simplest and most effective...though not as great as the Export Brace/Monte Carlo bar combo.

Photo bucket is holding all my pictures hostage for money so I guess I am sharing my google library for now.
Right hand quarter panel is on and the wheel opening is repaired. I need to get the 46 in the shop for some work before spring arrives so this will be it on the Torino other then some seam sealer, undercoating and floor paint before I start on the engine bay painting and hanging fenders.

Is the nickname for the car going to be "patches" when you are finished? :) Making good progress.

All the cars up north would be called "patches".

I wish more parts were available for this car but then I would have missed out on all this fun. :(
