Not even close......I hate finish panel welding. Give me 3/16 plate any day.

No Bob, it is not considered a weld thru primer. I do not have spots that I can not spray after welding so I did not spray any weld thru.
I do have some in the garage for those area when I need it.

Well I better get my butt in gear with this car or I will never get to my 55 Chevey.
Time to start on the tail panel repairs.
Out with the old and in with .... some old and new.

Body man question.
Would you weld this inside seam? If I were doing floor pans I would but this is a little different. I put the step in it for a lap joint on the bottom since it was behind the trunk trim and butt welded the sides. Just don't ant to put more heat into the part then needed.

If you can flood that seam with primer on a brush while its fresh just like that, thats probably the best thing. I mean... you could stand on your head to do fancy grinding to end up with a butt there, but why? Personally I would have plug welded the stepped flange then welded the seam on the outside with it set up like you have and to end up like you have. Structurally, no reason to weld more.

Trunk gutters sure are rust hotspots, no matter what old car you have. Nice find on that clean section, thats a good fix. :)

I was gonna suggest por15 over the lap . But you asked for experienced bodymen , I am a hack !

More work getting done on the tail panel.
Building a drip rail is a pain in the A**.
Next up after the tail panel is complete will be the right hand quarter panel. Only patching this side.
