I thought I read somewhere that on a OBDI Ford connector there is one pin to ground the fuel pump relay,I have to test a fuel pump in a 84 small LTD so I need to know what pin to use.

wayne petty

ground the light blue and orange wire.. its the short end of the row of 4..

this commands the fuel pump relay on...

if you have a digital volt meter..  set it to 20 volts scale..  find the inertia switch..    with the fuel pump running.. back probe the 2 wires going into the inertia switch.. you should have really really close to ZERO on the digital volt meter..

with some .250" male flat quick connects..   set up so you can plug the other ends into the banana jacks on the digital volt meter 10  AMP  or greater DC  meter ports...    unplug the inertia switch.. plug your new pigtails into the unplugged harness end.. now you can measure the amp draw of the fuel pump /s easily..   you can also do this the same way at the fuel pump relay..  this is sometimes easier.

warning .. when testing the fuel pump relay socket terminals..  ford actually hooked the relays up backwards from the drawings...

this is a later diagram.  the inertia switch was moved around to different locations from year to year..

if you can get the car to RUN.  please perform this test...

if you need more info.. post..
