Using a NOS heater control valve

I went to turn off the heat in my 55 Ford and the heat control valve must have froze up breaking the cable,I have a new one in the box but its been sitting around for many years so in case there is rubber in it should I soak it in something before installing it on the car. I am also thinking about getting the cable and valve from a 67 to 72 ford truck or a Mopar and mounting it in line under the hood which would be much cheaper then trying to replace what I have if my replacement goes bad.

probably won't help much.. i don't think i would soak a new heater control valve in anything..

some are push to shut off.. some are pull..

if you feel like junk yarding..   dig into the volvo section of the junk yard..

the 142/144 and 164E used a commercial self adjusting heater control valve.  it has a temp capillary tube. that sits in the air flow.. the cable adjusts the basic temp.. the air flow past the tube changes the opening flow to keep the heater at the EXACT temp selected..  76 to 87 280Z also used a similar self adjusting heater control valve..

The Volvo valve mentioned is made by Ranco - Volvo-specific ones are overpriced, but check out Studebaker, etc.
My project is 90% finished, with only 90% to go.

I used a inline valve for a early 70s Ford truck and the cable from a mid 80s F600,broke the plastic brackets off the ends of the cable and it works fine. Had to make a plate to cover the hole for the valve and drilled a hole in it for the cable to pass through.

 I had an old 142E..the heater control valve went. At that point..and with any car..the price of the valve was just..noooo..ANYTHING BUT!

  Yup..a few copper plumbing connectors,and a shut off.I always said I would put in a another valve/control..but never botherred :lol:

  I had such a love hate relationship with that car..
