Is electric power steering on production cars computer controlled?
I see there are electric power steering units for steering column installation available for street rods. There isn't room for one of these.
I'm sure all the mfg's are using them. A quick look online showed me racks from late model Mustang and Fusions. These may fit.
I was looking for a method to save room in the engine bay, and another accessory to mount on the motor.
I do NOT want more wiring so computer control rules it all out IF that is required.

Some do, especially those with stability control. here are a couple of links I found on the subject, hopefully there will be something to help you.

I wonder how the OEM alter the electric control on the R&P for stability?  I guess voltage

Our 2006 VW Jetta had lectric assist rack... the 2013 Civic we bought also has lectric assist rack.

The 2011 Civic we owned had hydraulic assist rack and in slow turns like a parking lot; the computer would bump the engine RPM up slightly and unpredictably.
