My rebuilt 302" Ford has a little over 1000 miles on it. The oil pressure is normally  60 at idle and about 75 running. Suddenly it has remained at 75-80 all of the time.I have Auto-Meter gauges and think it is reading right. What could cause this sudden increase? Any worries?

please verify with a mechanical oil pressure test..

if the oil pump pressure relief valve is stuck.. it will either twist off the shaft when you rev the motor.. or wear the distributor drive gear off..   might also strip the hex out in the distributer..

there are oil pump priming tools you can do a engine off pressure test...

if you have a REALLY strong 1/2" or larger variable speed drill ..

so many things that could go wrong..

best to check them before wiping out the bearings...

Thanks Wayne: At least a place to start checking.

sure...

but its going to be filled with some oil...

may slow it down from any additional compression testing uses..
