Two things. First I need the measurement from the rear of the left rear cab mount to the center of the rear axle on a 59 Chevy pickup with a 6 1/2 ft bed. I have to shorten a frame.

Second, in the attached picture there is a braided line coming from the side of the front blower gear case. What is it for? The only thing I can think of is a vent. The other end is not attached to any thing, doesn't even have a fitting on it.

hose may be a vent..  some of the BDS 6-71 blowers I ran in "the day"  had no vent , they had a pressure relief valve at that location on the gear cover..

You pushed the valve with the engine off and the pressure was released..  BDS told me the seals worked better under slight pressure

I don't think that 59 is the same as 69 so I won't be much help. I'll check some of my old manuals for diagrams.

The hose is a vent. I was told years ago that releasing pressure when the engine was shutoff would help seal life. I ran the push valve on all mine. Without anything on the hose end, what's going to keep the oil mist from leaving the front cover????

i went looking through my archives.. nothing on this measurement..

but.  i did find this article..  on building a new frame for a 59 pickup

i know it wont help in your search for information..  but maybe it will spur someone on or under their truck...

Why not put the vent line back into a valve cover? With the ammount of boost a street motor would have ,I doubt it would cause a problem.

Thanks for the info on the blower. Since I like things simple, I think it will get a valve there. It looks like the builder intended the line to fasten to the radiator, and vent toward the ground.

I crawled under a stock 58 I have in my yard. Dropping a straight line down to the axle the measurement to the center of the rear cab mount is 42-1/4". No box on the pickup so I visually can't tell if this has the wheel/tire in the center of the fender. Chevy trucks are notorious for being a little off center. Hope this is close enough to help you out. Rick

I think there may be one around the corner. I can't remember if it's a '59 cab or a '55 to '58 or '63 to '66. I can only see it from the side and I know it's SWB and it sits too nice to be a 4x4. I think I have some plum-bobs and this is a truck with a bed and fenders so I can see how the wheels fit in the fenders. GPster

This is to the center of the rear axle?

Yes. Axle center. It also intersects the rear section of the rubber bumper, not center as I would have expected.

Ok, thanks. The bumper on this one is the same way.

I'll measure my `63 SWB if you think it's the same.

It should be the same, it's the same bed.

I make it 43", pretty much exactly, from the rear surface of the driver side cab mt. frame bracket to the axle CL.
