700 r4-? reverse, but no forward- Help Crosley! (or anyone-)

My Brother's '89 Astro Van is stuck with no forward gears, but will go in reverse. IAs there anything he might be able to do in the gravel at his house in the woods, like a stuck shift valve or maybe a computer plug in that he could check before going to AAMCO or the junk yard with it?
It was sort of progressively getting slow to start moving after putting into in to gear I think if that helps.

if reverse  functions...  this tells me :

the converter is transfering power

the trans pump is working

the input shaft is transfering power

the reverse input frictions and low-reverse frictions are working..

if there is no forward movement in ANY gear selection  1, 2, 3, D , then the forward clutch packs are smoked  , hard seals, etc.  

No forward is not the result of a bad shift valve , solenoid in this trans.

The 1989  trans is not computer shifted -controlled
