Hey Gaz, don't forget the Museums are closed on Mondays (catches out all the Aussie tourists).  NHRA Museum at Pomona is also well worth a look.  Fair drive from where you're staying but not hard to find.

Although years ago I heard it was both Saturday and Sunday, do people still show up on Sunday?

Come on, you're 55 years old. That's too old to not know what day of the week today is.
Today is the 8th and it's Saturday.
Ya missed DD for this week....
There's circle boat races going on in the Long Beach Marine Stadium right now and tomorrow, Sunday the 9th.
I was riding down there on my 40 year old bike and saw the cracker boxes, 3 point outboards and blown SK's run heats.
Hotrods on the water!
