Rodder's Roundtable / Indy Goodguys
June 14, 2005, 09:12:14 PM
A friend went to Indy and teased me w/some pics of Lil John's new roadster.  Couldn't find anything doing a Yahoo search.  Does anyone have any, or links to any?  Looking for ideas for my project.

Thanks.

I know the feeling.  I have relatives in the area.  Maybe I can talk the wife into letting me go so "I can visit family".  Of course it could be that I am trying to get a new member of my vehicle family.

Thanks.  That looks tempting.

Quote from: "enjenjo"All the trucks bigger than a C30, or 3500 used a tall deck block. you could either get a 366, or a 427, that's all that was available in BBC in the big trucks, the 427 had the same bore and stroke as a car, but the pistons, and rods were longer, and most had 4 rings. the 366 had the 427 stroke, with a 3 7/8" bore, same as a 283. they also had the longer pistons and rods. about the only thing useful in a 366 is the crank, it's forged. you can build a long stroke 377 out of them, but they cost as much as a 454 to build.

The rods are the same as the Pass versions.  They do have the 4 ring piston.  The extra ring land makes up the additonal .400" deck height.  You can use a 6.535" rod (.400 Longer) and stock pistons.  You will also need a different intake, or spacers.

It could always be a pretty display engine.  Just like my favorite saying "There is a fine line between hardcore and stupid"  I know which side of the line I am on.  I just refuse to answer.

Looks great the way it is.  I am not a fan of white walls at all.  Loosing my taste for white letters, too.  Blackwall all the way. 8)

Quote from: "Beck"Talk about different things to try. Last winter I decided I wanted to go tractor pulling. I couldn't finance the big boys so I built a garden tractor. Not your normal garden tractor. This one was designed for the motorcycle powered class. It was all hand built, with a '03 750 GSXR motor. How does a 140 hp, 16500 rpm garden tractor sound? I tried to figure out how to post the picture here. Up until a day or so ago it had been a long time since I posted here. I see some of the names I recognize from years past. HI guys!

A guy that I work with is into garden tractor pullers.  Are you going to the pull in Des Moines in April?

Quote from: "Charlie Chops 1940"Roadster pickups are the rule. I have a  track nosed '26 running a Weber carbed 151 with a T-50 5 speed. Should start terrorizing midwestern streets this summer sometime. Hope to debut it at Indy GG.

Insert spam here...let me know if you're interested in an Offy 4 barrel intake for your 292...I just happen to have one taking up space.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the board. It's a good place with lotsa good folks.

Charlie

A freind had a track t w/a 153 Chevy II 4cyl.  Another guy in town owns this

It has a 153 in it, too.  Love the spindle mount Halibrands.

Might end up taking you up on that intake.  At some point I want to make a sidedraft style EFI, but that will probably be a few yrs down the road.

Quote from: "Charlie Chops 1940"I got hooked on hotrods when I was just barely a teenager. One of the big influences were the Heny Gregor Felsen books. I have read them many times and they still have the ability to make me a kid again.

I need to see if I can find my copies.  I loved reading his stories.

I like mixing ideas from different areas.  Using dirt track ideas on a drag car.  Drag car ideas on a 4WD...  Kinda like the jack of all, master of none idea.  If it has an engine, you should mess with it.

Starting to accumulate parts for a roadster pickup project.  Hoping to find a either a 28-29 or 30-31 Model A.  Going to be powered by a 292 Chevy 6.  Hopefully back it with a T-5.  Getting a Quick Change pieced together through swap meets, auctions, and the ever dangerous (According to my wife) Ebay.  Going to go for the Modified look when i get to that point.

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: 4WD transmission questions
January 23, 2005, 10:48:28 AM
Quote from: "unklian"On  the GM 4WD transmissions,
is there any sort of differential front to rear ?
How does that work ?

Any of the ones I've seen, offset the drive to the right. Is it possible to install the tail housing upside down to offset the output to the left ?

And did they make 4WD Powerglides ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

No factory Powerglides.  It is becoming the Hot Ticket in the rockcrawiling world.  There have been a few adapted the last few yrs.  GM trucks up to 1987 and Blazers, Suburbans, and Crew Cabs up to 1991 had passenger side drop on the transfer case.  Full time cases (NP 203) Have a differential.  It can be overridden with the LOCK position.   Part time cases (NP 205, NP 208, and NP 241) do not have differentials.  There can be oiling issues on them if you invert them.  The 241 is available in pass and drivers side drops.
