Rodder's Roundtable / A/C compressor
July 20, 2020, 02:42:06 PM
An update. I spoke with a Vintage Air company tech this morning. He said that the system needs only what the compressor manufacturer specifies. The small Sandens they sell are charged with 4.5 oz and the larger ones are 7.2 oz. No additional oil need be added. So I will not add any more to the Murray reman Ford compressor. Thanks for all the input.

Thanks for your reply. The only tag says that it has 3 oz. in the compressor. I know that the Sanden in my 40 holds 7 oz. but this is a Ford Factory unit. I sent Murray an email asking the question but they have not responded.

Rodder's Roundtable / A/C compressor

In order to use the factory front accessory drive [1986] on the 302 in my 55 Ford I am using a reman compressor from Murray/Four Seasons with my Vintage Air system. The compressor came with a label stating that it is charged with 3 oz. of Pag 46. This compressor from the factory when it as R12 held 13 oz. of mineral oil. I have emailed Four Seasons with the question is that the complete capacity of the compressor. I know that the Sanden compressor in my 40 holds 7 oz. of oil. Can someone with more knowledge than I provide any input?

Rodder's Roundtable / Ford AOD trans
May 04, 2020, 07:30:32 PM
I have an AOD in my latest project that was rebuilt a few years ago by a well respected trans rebuilder that has since retired and move way. It is performing well with the exception of one hiccup. When the trans is cold [first start up in the day] and I approach a stop as it downshifts into first it feels as if I am crossing a cattle guard. It also lugs the motor. Shifting into neutral prior to the stop eliminates the problem. After that first downshift into first it performs as it should. I am unsure as what to do to overcome this.

Certainly not the same as your car but I did install a Tbird IRS under my 53 F100. It certainly changed the way it drives, but I cant say that it vastly improved ride over the leaf sprung rear suspension. Now I had removed most of the spring leaves to attain the best ride with no thought of hauling any weight in the bed so it rode pretty good already. I love the way it drives now.

I had a full set up for a few years, backing plates to drums, including a new set of the arms along with the originals. Took them to swap meet a few times then gave them away last year.
