The 'M' suffix on the Snap-On ratchets denotes military spec, or military property.  The stepped tool might be a common design - but mine (Red) came with a Mallory Dual-Point dizzy.

I hope some of my boys will remember the experience too.A couple of them from this project are pursuing a career in industrial mechanics and a couple more hope to become machinists . I have a standing offer with the guys . You show me your journeymans certificate and the first beer is on me ! I have bought a few enjoyable rounds to date. One of the better perks of my line of work is seeing these guys grow  into skilled tradesmen with above average incomes .Many of them were never expected to finish high school .

Wish I'd had a teacher that thought like you.  You could only take metal shop if you were deemed "not very teachable".  "Ending up working with your hands" was a threat to motivate the un-motivated.  Sad.

Indeed - Merry Christmas to all.  I've not had much to say this year, but really enjoy following other folks projects.  May the coming year be happy, safe, and prosperous for all.

Had a similar thing with the Suburban last summer, and decided to just replace the alt. with a rebuilt.  My NAPA said they had 3 on the shelf - come and get one.  When I told them it was for my own truck and that I planned to keep it at least five more years, they said they would order me one for the next day.  Does that mean there are different qualities involved?  

I have no Ford-specific knowledge, but my first thought would be to double check the adjustment on the front wheel bearings.  What happens if you ride the pedal very lightly and then veer left and right - any pulsation?

You are both lucky to have those photos, as I'm sure you know.  So much family-level history ends up in junk stores or worse.  I wonder what it will be like in another 75 years - family heirlooms handed down on CD's or memory sticks that nobody will be able to view.

I went through this with a friends vintage race car (old Volvo).  The previous owner/builder had made "lightening holes" in all the shrouding above and beside the radiator.  Even with a new oversize aluminum radiator it still over-heated.  I never could convince him to restore the shrouding and our relationship ended on a sour note.  After all, I was just an amateur and the car had been built by a professional.

The Volvo valve mentioned is made by Ranco - Volvo-specific ones are overpriced, but check out Studebaker, etc.

Very nice indeed!  Do the different colors of foam denote different densities?

Weird weather!  We're about 20 miles SSE of Muskegon and got maybe an hour of moderate rain, with lightning off in the distance.  No power outage.

Being in Michigan I figured you meant "lost it on the road" also.

I adjust the car position to put 275-300 lbs on the hitch - seems to be pretty stable.  

Although the tires say Made In Canada, I suppose they could be fakes.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.  My understanding of the value of trailer tires is in increased sidewall stiffness, but that could be wrong too.

My single-axle tilt trailer has a 12 foot deck.  The axle center is 74" from the front of the deck and the ball center is 56" ahead of the deck.  The trailer is very stable both loaded and empty at highway speeds.  Best advice I received was to buy good trailer-rated tires.  Worst problem is forgetting that you have the trailer behind you
