Rodder's Roundtable / How do I measure for a 4-link?
December 29, 2005, 03:16:18 PM
I'm looking at either the airride ARS14500 seen here,
http://www.ridetech.com/productinfo/air4link_parallel.asp
or looking into getting a friend from ark city to help me with it. I'm not to good at the measuring and guzintas. I'd like to have a watchful eye over my shoulder.

Thank you enjenjo. that's the point in the right direction I was looking for. I will be using an equal length parallel system. I do not want to lay frame (personally, I've never understood that), but, I do want to get down for slow cruising. I hadn't even though of raising the drive shaft tunnel. I did figure on using the panhard bar though.

I really wanting to add a 4-link and bags to the rear of my 51 Merc. Can anybody give me either the basic or detailed reference points so I can get an idea as to how much work this entails? thanks

Rodder's Roundtable / Satellite Radio.....XM or Sirius ??

XM has what they call "terrestrial repeaters" on cell towers all over the place. If they get alot of complaints on a dead zone, they'll install a repeater. My sat in my caprice is run through the antenna and my wifes impala has it through the tape player (for now). I'll hard wire both next year. Also, one of the reasons i went to Xm was the size of the recievers. They have a Roady XT the is less that 1" thick.

MP3's are a great idea. I'm going in that direction also very soon. I like listening to a little talk radio too. I listen to Opie & Anthony every morning. Nothing like a little good natured raunchy comedy first thing in the morning.

I'm afraid so. Sirius is holding onto the very end of the fiscal rope and hoping it will stretch just a little bit more with Stern and NASCAR.

Tom, Sirius has already missed their market projections for this quarter. The stock took a hard hit yeasterday. They are paying Stern $500 MILLION! They are really hoping that alot of Sterns fans follow him over. KB426 got it right though, pick the company you want by programming not by the equipment.

There's where people differ. I personally don't follow any sports, so, I'm not missing that. I know people who have sat radio just for sports. I do listen to music almost 24 hrs a day though. Just look at the channels, listen to a free trial (I know XM has one, not sure about Sirius), and pick which one you like the best.

I've subscribed to XM for about 2 yrs now and couldn't be happier. Granted they have taken away some of my favorite channels. A really good variety of shows and channels. I follow the behind the scenes and the industry pretty closely, and let's just say I'll be suprised if one company is still in business 2 yrs from now.

I have good travel. I checked that on first assembly. I do not have dropped spindles. The reason I cut a coil or two off was that the springs were physically to long to fit between the cup and the lower a-arm. What would you consider a good amount of spindle travel? *, I knew I should have put a camaro sub in there!!!!

Thanks for the help guys. I am really considering saving my pennies and getting shockwaves for the front. The rear will be 4-linked this winter. Now here's another question. Should I get the single adj. or double adj. shockwaves? Is the second adj. feature worth the extra $300?

Hmmm, coilovers. I hadn't even thought of that. Good idea. I definately need to weigh the car.

I've been driving my 51 Merc daily for a few days while my wife is off work. This thing beats me to death every day. It rides so bad I don't want to drive anymore. I have a MII frame stub up front and a Buick 425 nailhead. out back I have a camaro rear hung on stock springs with 2 or 3 leafs removed. I know that the rear rides rough because I have about 2'" of travel. That will be cured with a 4-link and bags this winter. I also have 3" WWW bias plys all the way around. When I installed the stub, I had to cut about 2 coils off the springs to get them to fit. I was thinking about junking the bias tires and moving to a radial to see if that helped. Did I shoot myself in the foot by cutting the front springs? Should I have a new set of springs made? Would lowering springs for a mustang work? Should I just suck it up and buy a kidney belt? I'm really just fishing for ideas here.

Thank you very much, sir. That's just the info I was looking for. I'll have my mechanic order one for my tranny.
