i saw this article when i was surfing one day....

http://www.lightracing.com/LightRacingTech/FlareHoleArticle_4x4Garage.pdf

and then i saw this from harbor freight

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96718

my thoughts are how nice this hydraulic punch would press the die set to flair holes in items...

Looks like  it could do a great job.

I think the HF unit is like a Greenlee conduit punch and does straight holes. If we had a good source for radius dies, we could be in business.

http://www.lightracing.com/v1b/flared_tools.cfm sells the tools....

but they seem to be from or through specialty equipment ... same people who make the various wheel alignment stuff for slightly out of spec cars..

This  a little off the subject, but here is a frame I'm anxiously awaiting delivery of.  It's a set of  32 rails pinched for an 30/31 A, with all the Ionia belled hole boxing plates and x member.  Eric (Vaphead on the HAMB), at Riley Auto in Denver built it for me.  First time I ever had a frame built by someone and can hardly wait to get it.  It seems to pretty to put a body on.   :D  :D  :D   Tom..

IHRS's belled hole boxing plates and x-member components are very well done. Sure to compliment any chassis. Cant's wait to see your pictures. I have done a few deals with Eric and it's a pleasure to work with him.

I bought a set of Greenlee "Slug-Buster" punches (like these):

and then bought a set of Dimple Dies from these guys to match:

They seemed to have the best price and quality, and work really well-

I like the holes in the cross members, but how do you keep the frame rails from filling up with dirt and crud?

Well guys, I'll be 65 this year, so I doubt very much if those rails will get filled with crud in MY lifetime :) Painting in there should be interesting though.   Tom...
