My tools are all magnitized, I expect from the welding I do. Any thoughts on stopping it?
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

If they're sticking to you, you have to spin rapidly to the left....heck, I don't know. After all, you're the guy I always call if I can't make up a good sounding .

Maybe reverse the polarity on your ratchets  :?: Isn't that what the little "flipper" thing does   :?  Perhaps start welding from right to left or vicey-versy :?

Heat 'em up red hot, that will kill the magnitism, might kill the tool also, but at least they won't stick to each other....

Find out which end is N and which is S. Then wrap them with insulated wire and put a small DC current through the wire to make a low power electromagnet with the poles opposite to what the tools are. You can change the polarity of the electromagnet by reversing the current. If you leave the electromagnet on long enough it will cancel out or neutralize the magnetism. This method can be used to magnetize a fork ,knife or spoon, the perfect april fools day surprize!

The part that bugs me is the little slivers of steel that are sticking to them.

Just thought of another Idea. If you have access to a magnaflux machine you might be able to de-magnetize them that way.

stroking your tools with a magnet  ... one direction   again and again... not back and forth will magnatize most tools...

making circular motions while rotating the magnet will dimagnatize them

stroking the magnet in one direction will line up the electrons...   circling the magnet will misalign them...   easy...

So does this mean Franks been stroking the tool
Some days it\'s not worth chewing through the restraints.

Ohio Blue Tip

Buy a demagnitzer and run your tools through.  Had small ones at work to use after surface grinding on a magnetic chuck.
Some people try to turn back their odometers
Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.
I\'ve traveled a long way and some of the
roads weren\'t paved.

Have you tried running a massive ground wire hooked to the tool?

Leon

I got a small demagnitizer and have it mounted on the wall near the grinder.  Rub it around on that and pull it away before turning the power off and the tool is bacl to normal.  It seems like I'm doing my files more than anything else, keeps them from clogging up.

You could just get a  tool demagnetizer .....unless you like rubbing your tool when shavings stick to it.

are you sure it's not from your magnetic personality

of course if they are opposite fields from you, you would never be able to pick them up. or do i have that backwards
