I know a couple of you are following my progress with the lakester.  I finally finished the front of the car from the cage forward to the nose.

It has taken a while, but I'm working on it almost every day now and sure hope it is at least one of the events next year on the salt.

The work on the front starts on page 49 of the following link if anyone is interested:

What specific 750 are you using? I have a little expirience with mc powered cars myself....

Thanks for the encouragement guys.  One little problem with getting done on time Frank, the body.  I'm going to see if John will come here for the month of June  :P .  I'm sure Brenda would be glad to be rid of him for a while  .

The 750 is a 2002 GSX-R Suzuki.  Tom (Beck on here) sent me a wiring diagram to use since he put one in a pulling tractor.  I've debated if getting the motor started is the next thing on the menu or not.  The car would work with the 750 the way it is, but the next engine will be a Hayabusa and since it turns slower I'll have to put in a jack-shaft.  I'm thinking about doing that now and getting it over with and then I wouldn't have to change a lot of plumbing and wiring around later with the new engine position.

If you are familiar with either of these motors and would like to PM me your phone number and/or address I'll keep it for reference if I run into problems. Thanks.

I have a turbo that will work with the 750 and if there is time I might move to that option before it runs.  The unblown gas record is 164 mph and the blown gas is 188.  The car is really designed to work in the future with a 500-600 blown 'busa motor and it might be too big for the 750.  It puts out a claimed 127 hp in stock mode.  It is so highly refined by the factory that it is hard to get much above that without going to a turbo and then if you are going to run more than 5-6 lbs. of boost it will need pistons and rods and I don't know if I want to go through that expense with this motor.  I would rather put the money in the 'busa.

The main goal for next year though is to get it on the salt and through tech inspection and make a pass or two.

If you got room for A BIG * SPROCKET, STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM A JACKSHAFT AS POSSIBLE...I ran a jackshaft in my off road car, gsxr 600, Blew up a 200 dollar chain in about 6.5 minutes, it multiplys the torque far to much...

Are you using the oem wire harness? There is only a couple things you need to do...

My problem is that I need a little sprocket to get the speed with the lower rpm of the 'busa.

http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/bvillecar/construction%20page-4.html

The current sprocket is 36 teeth and I might be able to go down to a 31 or 32 and still have the chain clear.  I will actually not be multiplying torque as the jack shaft will result in a taller gear.  Also with the jack shaft if I wanted I could move the sprocket to the middle somewhere on the datsun rear where the brake is now and double chain it.  A lot of guys have had chain problems on the salt also with the blown busa's like Ricks 360 mph busa powered car, but now a lot of them are spraying water on the chain to help cool it and that has helped a lot.  I'll do that.

I found out that the busa sprockets will work on the 750 countershaft, so all my sprockets run the larger busa chain.

I'll start with the stock wiring.  The decision time will come with the turbo and how to handle the extra fuel for that.  I'll probably go with a second set of injectors run with a MegaSquirt.  That has been done and is the cheapest.

Thanks for the input and keep it coming,

Sum

what size tire, in a 1000 lb car the busa is only going to push to about 124 mph, there just is not enuff torque.....I think in the 750 you need to gear lower to get the car rolling and still hit top gear, with the weight of your car im guessing you will never get it over 130 tops....Might better look at a motor with a v configuration....

Come over and join this board, there is a lot of guys who know mc engines like the back of there hand....

hey sum, can you go to a 1 tooth larger sprocket at the trans?
it's worth 10 at the rear, usually.

just a thought...

old dirt bike days thingbut that'd work even better for sum, i'll have to sit down with a calculator sometime...
yep, you're right. BUT what's the availability of final drive sprockets for that?

you can get a 100 tooth sprocket if you need it.... :D Ill dig up some posts, Luke from sonic sand cars built a 1000 lb car with a busa, he had it at bonneville this yr, top was less than 120 mph....

PostPosted: Fri Sep 21, 2007 5:28 pm Post subject: Re: World of Speed (Hayabusa minibuggy) How fast is fast???

Here's the quick report on the Bonneville outing.  We made it out there late Tuesday and went through Tech Wednesday morning.  We teched as a full race car but not knowing what speed the car was going to run they put us in a "time only" class (no record run's in time only) we got one pass in Wednesday and on our shake down run ran 77 mph.  Through the timed "flying" quarter mile.  I then used the rest of the track 5 miles or so to slowly bring the car up to about 110 mph and feel out the handling.  After pulling off the  track officials informed me that I wasn't soused to use all 7 miles of the track (different that some other forms of racing I've done where you are encouraged to use the hole track....lol)  I assured them that it was a rookie mistake and I wouldn't be doing that again.  Thursday we made two passes 117 mph and 115 mph the track seemed to go away latter in the day and we lost about 2 mph but it seemed that other car's were slowing also.  On Friday we only had time for one pass before we had to load up and make track's for the SSSS the track officials moved the track to the right of the previous day and there were three car's that spun out just before my run (that had me a little worried about track condition) We made our best pass of the outing at 118.6 mph and the car handled great!!!

For those that are wondering about set up our final drive ratio was 3.70 to 1 (17Tfront  63T rear sprocket's) and we were running a 27.5" tall tire.  The gear ratio was killing us and I had every intention of bring some different sprockets with but they didn't make it to us in time so we did the best we could with the part's we had on hand.
