I got a new cabin air filter element for my wife's '04 Avalanche but I can't figure out where it goes.

She didn't like my idea of duct taping it to the half open driver's door window.

Anybody know where the dirty filter is hiding?

Dave

Just had one put in sues new used 06 G/P.. Beats me. I dunno i payed for the filter the dealer ate the labor..

Pull the underdash panel off on the passenger side
There's a small door with one screw and a hinge on the opposite side
Thats your filter housing

Everytime I work on this thing it ends up making me feel stupid. I don't see the door or hinge anywhere in here.

Are you sure they changed it? Did they give you the old one? Maybe they just kept the new one to sell to someone else. GPster

Nope, no door there. I took the little gizmo with the wires on it off to look in the hole and the heater core is in the area that you circled.

rooster

Sure it dosent slide in under the dash from the under hood side?

oiler

Your truck doen't have the filters Don
The spot you circled is where it would normally be
For some reason some were deleted
Jeff

Crosley.In.AZ

my 2000 Silverado had this filter in the location shown / circled.

I have not looked under the dash to see in my 2006 has the filter...

with the way GM is dropping items from vehicles to lower the costs , I doubt my 2006 has the filter.

Thanks for the info. I'll take this filter back to NAPA and get my money back.

What about that long, extended-shank Allen bolt on the front-to-back "housing"?  Sort of like my air conditioner air handler filter.  Unscrew the Allen bolt, drop down the long, rectangular housing and unhook it at the firewall end and the chamber inside should hold the cabin filter.

Most of the ones I've replaced have been under the cowl vent cover, BTW.

FWIW, the're supposed to be mandatory in cars in the future so I doubt thay've been deleted.  Perhaps the replacement interval's been extended to "lifetime" instead?
