SO what is the purpose of a door sill? Are they a have to have? Will the carpet come away from the side of frame and door?

I cannot find door sills for me car, and the ones I have are in rough shape, I plan to install new carpet in the next couple of weekends.

Door sills hold the carpet down, and make a good place to run speaker wires. It's an asthetic piece too. You'll notice it right away when you open the doors.
Try Ebay motors (parts) and look under 55-57 Pontiac. I found new ones for my poncho because the 55 Chevy and Pontiac 2 door bodies are the same size, as are the 4 doors. You may have the same luck looking under Pontiac or Buick. I believe the 57 bodies are the same size also.

Here I go asking for favors again. As I am new to the hobby, can one of you give me some guidance in terms of what other year cars Door Sills would match a 58 Chevy, 4-dr.

Make your own. Mc Master carr has patterned aluminum sheets you can make them out of. You can bend it with a couple 2x4s.

It's not hard to do. But hold a straight edge along the floor where the sill goes to see if there's any curve to the floor before you go bending the metal.

Try here. They are for a 2 door, but you may be able to cut a pair down if need be for the rear doors.
It takes a short while to find them, but he does list them.

At first I thought you were referring to sills, then I read you wanted the dress covers.....In my case they are 2 seperate things....I am trying to locate the sill covers as well for my 37...Making them might be an option. Might be a bit tricky cause they are curved with an angled edge. If they were straight, then no worries, I'd have a go.
