What is the narrowest, moderately low profile tire that will fit on a 17x7" wheel?

Are there any tires available that have a tread width close to 7 inches wide?  (previous owner had mounted a 255/50/17 on it ....10 inch tread width)

The narrowest one I have found so far is a 205/45/17 (8 inch tread)

Is there an oddball tire out there that is a smidgen narrower?

The tread width on a 205 is closer to 7 than to 8. Goodyear does make a 195/45/17

Any idea who sells that size?  Tire rack and Discount tire don't list it.

Nope, I just found it listed on Goodyear's web site. Maybe a tire distributor might have them.

205/40r17 is a common import/rice rocket size, lots of choices. 205/45 is also available, just not as common, Cooper makes it, among others. Both will work on a 7" wide wheel, but neither has a very high load rating, approx 1100 lbs per tire, max. If you're running a roadster, they're probably ok, but on a sedan you'll likely have trouble with sidewall impact damage from running too close to the maximum. Most tire manufacturer web sites will have size charts with height, width, load capacity etc, but the average tire store won't.
