My other Son (Dan's twin) is starting to build a T bucket from a kit I gave him as a Xmas gift.  We have just started mocking it up, and he is going to use a hot little 306 CI Ford roller he was originally building for his drag car.

It will be cool when the three of us go cruising.

Here are some early shots.

Last night my Son Dan and I wrapped up a 13 hour day at 3 AM, working on Dons Christmas present T bucket.  Dan is the fabricator in the family, and decided he didn't like the way the frame was done, so he and I built a new one yesterday.

Here is where we started at 2 pm yesterday.

After the 2 x 3 box tubing was cut to the right angles for the kickups, we clamped them to the welding table and migged them up.

Then we did the same with the siderails.

Next we clamped both siderails to our frame jig and started adding crossmembers.

For the round front crossmember we did it differently than we ever did before this. Usually you just punch a 3 inch hole through the inner wall of each framerail, and slip the tube in and weld the inside wall only.  Dan found this method where you cut the hole through both walls, and then make a cap for the tube crossmember, and weld it solidly all the way around.  This becomes your outside wall, and is completely welded in place, inside and out.

Here is how we cut the front part of the frame.

Then the capped tube crossmember is inserted

Now the outside is partially welded, forming the new outside wall of the framerail.

And then the two top and bottom pieces are trimmed and rounded over the front edge and welded in place.  When it is all welded and ground, you never know the outside wall was cut out.

And after 13 hours work, we got the body put on for it's trial fit.

Now we have to do the front perch, rear coilover brackets, and misc to get it up on wheels before Christmas.

One more shot.

Thanks for looking,

Very nice work Don.  I'll bet you're proud that your sons like working with the old man.

That's quite a Christmas present.  You're not taking applications for another son are you?
