"more addictive than heroin"

I have been looking at some of the other guys motors............................ I know, "thou shalt not covet another mans engine" and I decided I needed a few upgrades. :)

so I got out the old Speedway catalog, the Visa, and went to town

I now am the proud owner of...........drum roll please.............
a Performance + Plus crosswind intake, a King Chrome water pump, short style, a 45* swivel water outlet, a set of stainless steel heater hoses, a set of stainless steel upper and lower radiator hoses, stainless steel intake and water pump bolts.
the fan shroud will be here next week, it was a B/O :(

getting some temp creep at hiway speeds, don't know if a shroud will help. I'm running a Spal 16" electric puller, no shroud. maybe an engine driven fan?? the lower rad. hose has the spring moulded into it, so I don't think its collapsing. it cools down at lower speeds and idle, so I'm thinking airflow problem :?

anybody here running a crosswind intake?
how 'bout the King Chrome water pump?

now, as soon as that is paid........a chrome M/C and booster, and a chrome oil pan are next.
also gonna swap out heads for the "double humps" I had on it when it was in my stock car, 68cc combustion chambers, ported, polished and blended, of course.

something to do this winter. 8)

I would think if it is not cooling at highway speeds that it isn't an airflow problem.  You will generally get plenty of airflow at highway speeds.  May be too much engine for that radiator?

rumrumm

I used a King Chrome water pump on my previous street rod and ran it for ten years without any problems. The Crosswind intake is an offshore knockoff of an Edelbrock intake. I would check if for quality before installing it. Sounds like your engine bay is going to be looking mighty nice, Vance.

I'd get the temp problem under control before putting the stainless hoses on. I've been told they add to the temp as the metal holds the heat in. I'd get your radiator checked to see if it's plugged or get a bigger one.
Some days it\'s not worth chewing through the restraints.

Vance; Are these two statements conflicting?

"a set of stainless steel upper and lower radiator hoses,"
"the lower rad. hose has the spring molded into it,"

The reason I ask is because I'm presuming your referring to the Cool-Flex type of ribbed, bendable tubes. Then again you may be referring to just braided covers, because a lower tube spring isn't needed in a all steel unit.

I was thinking that if it is in fact a Cool-Flex type, the ID of those is usually smaller then the stock rubber hose and might be causing a flow restriction problem, at speed. ..........Frank

Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

I ran one of these on my 60 Chevy and it worked fine. They have 1/2" pipe thread bungs on all 4 corners of the intake so you can plumb from the front to the back (I used S/S hardline and was able to do this on the driver side only) to move colder water from the front to the back of the motor and found a dramatic increase in cooling. Maybe because my temp sensor was in the back of the head, but it really seemed to drop the temp. The distributer was in the way on the passnger side.

Hey, Amarillo Lokar Kickdown boy...I guess the guy had what you needed huh?
Do I get a finders fee...? :D
In lieu of payment, send another one of those up close and personal polaroids you have of Dave.
I taped the last one on the front of my garbage can, and boy, did it ever keep the racoons out...!!

Sorry Frank, I type faster than I think..... .....anyway, the current rad, hose has the moulded in spring, the new one is S/S, I haven't put it on yet.

its a 4-core Wakler radiator with the A/C condenser  in front. it gets up around 200-210 on a warm summer day.

Thats what I was thinking, plumb it that way to increase water flow. I too am running the temp sender in the right head, I was wondering about heat soak from the headers, but on the way back from Dallas last month, it puked a little H2O from the overflow tube when I stopped for gas, temp gauge was about 220-225*

I was gonna move the temp sender from the head to the intake, wonder if there is enough room to put it at the right rear corner of the intake :?
shouldn't interfere with the dizzy, maybe.

what would be really nice, would be to plumb a water crossover across the rear water ports. if I can plumb it around the dizzy, and put the temp sender in the left front corner.

I did notice that the inside if the intake runners needs some attention with a Dremel tool, just a little smoothing out of some casting marks. other than that, it seems like a pretty neat intake. I'll be interested in how it performs 8)

Thanks everybody for your input and suggestions...............well, ALMOST everybody
