A hoon is more like a bodgie but a squirrel that's more like a gerbil isn't it.
We're just a keyboard away but the intereprataion is miles away.

Hi all,

Just to clarify a few things:

1) I am most DEFINITELY a girl!    :)
2) Thanks, Unklian, for the link, I will chase it up!
3) I take it from the hoon confusion a lot of you have probably NOT been called a hoon before, and fair enough!

It does tend to be a derogatory term but some people do wear it proudly, and in fact there was some little controversy in Australia a while back on whether H-plates for "hoons" (like "L" plates for learners) was a good idea. I think a "hoon" license plate sounds kinda cute though.  :)  "H" plates might have led to some bad feeling on the roads.

Anyone that tinkers with their car is sometimes considered a hoon, and I was wondering if car lovers are being unfairly targeted by hoon laws. Excuse my ignorance, then, but is this a largely American site? I can imagine their might be some similar laws here even if the wording's a bit different.

Thanks for your comments!

Actually yes this is a largely US based audience. Something in the range of 80%. Aussies only comprise about 5% of the viewers of this site.
