They are also V8 powered, and not really layed out for a wheelchair pilot.

Having spent time in a wheelchair and a lot of time relying on someone else for motovation I'm hoping to come up with ideas for her that may have some semblance of practicality for her. I have surrounded myself with the impractical and don't wish that she would have to roll through that kind of stuff. GPster

That's why I mentioned it.

How about you sketch together something based on
some of the pics and links posted here, and see what she says ?  :?:

Then,go from there.

Most  trikes are not layed out for a wheel chair pilot.  All of them will need to be modified or built from ground up.

A seriously modified unit or home brew trike may present troubles with insurance companies.

A person may want to check on insurance availiblity first before building a trike for a wheel chair.

Thanks for that reminder. My Obvious concern was to come up with something that could be titled and licensed. I know that there is a big difference between what I thought I wanted and what I can handle. Even though she has gotten her drivers license she has nothing to drive and hasn't planned to come up with something until after an insurance settlement. I entered into this whole thing because I didn't want to lower her hopes at the start. I still want to keep her hopes up but maybe reality will tone her expections. GPster

How about making a moped trike?  Here in Michigan if you keep the engine less than 49cc  it doesn't have to be licensed or insured.  There's lots of ways to put small engines on bicycle 3 wheelers.
Here's a site that sells motor kits, both friction drive and chain drive and they have centrifugal clutches.  There's some ideas that can get you thinking at some of links on the site.  http://www.staton-inc.com/Details.asp?ProductID=2923
Some other links with ideas:

And if you really want to get trick, you could build one of these and motorize it.

Where and how she wants to ride influences
the decisions as well.

Something "adequate" for puttering around town
won't cut it on the interstate, for example.

Some places have a minimum displacement rule for freeways.

Figure the added weight of a wheelchair, mounting system,
extra wheel and tire, plus extra framework;it adds up.

A lot of these ideas are things that went through my mind while I wasn't able to drive. And I lot of the reminders that have come lately are some of the realities that have surfaced with my driving. Another thing that surfaced during my years of walking is "Road Rage" . Unfortunately, there is a competition to get any place that someone else might want to be and being on the road sharing space means that you have to be "up" to the competition. Even though you don't plan to "win" you have to be prepared to "finish". My appretiation for the comments. I think next Friday I'll have a copy of this topic for her to read. GPster

GPster,
I want a trike, but i'm finding that insurance is a real problem.I may buy a bare bones trike from texas trikes and go from there.they are vw powered.
you may talk to this company its called ridley motorcycles, and see if they can help design a trike.they sell 750s that are automatics, just twist the grip and it goes.no shifting,no clutch,it may be a solution for you.
