Welding a pitman arm ball?

I need to repair the pitman arm ball on my Crosley ..... see photo

I want to weld up the area of wear and reshape the ball end.

Mig , Tig, mild steel , stainless material or what ??

I would us a Tig, and chromemoly rod. That should be close to the original alloy.

That almost looks like the ball on a couple of Fords I did recently.  What's the other end, a taper with threads on the end?
