I'm wondering how they are going to put it on with so much total devastation in the whole Gulf Coast area.  The address below (I don't know how to attach a picture) shows my '32 behind my buddy's Model A Vicky in Bay St. Louis at the 2004 meet.  I'm pretty sure all those buildings are history.  I know the great restaurant we found, Ricky's in Waveland, the next town to the west, had nothing left but the foundation.  We preregistered in '04 for the '05 meet and have been notified that '06 is a go.  I know the locals sure could use it if there are enough businesses rebuilt.

I think motels are probably going to be the hardest to find along with places to eat at. Will have to go inland around I-10 to find some. Also will have to use I-10 to get to Bay St. Louis and Ocean Springs because the bridges are gone on 90. Gas stations too will be hard to find. I know I used a lot of fuel in 2004 down there and most of it was used up just sitting in line on hwy 90. They did open back up the mall on Thanksgiving weekend in 2005. They said that the hurricane touched every store in that mall. I'm guessing that it must have broken through in the weaker spots (doors & windows) and just swept through the entire mall.

I was talking to a couple from South MS last Saturday while I was at a car show and they said that her '55 Chevy was damaged in the hurricane. They had just gotten the car finished after buying it in March 2005. They took it to a car show in Detroit in August. Then came home and Katrina hit. The car was inside a building but a Pecan tree fell on the building. They saw it happen and got out there and jacked the roof of the building up to get the pressure off of the car. Said that the tailpipes were touching the ground, but the windows did not blow out. They got the car repaired and it is in fine shape today. Havent posted here in a long time but thought I should chime in here,  
From a locals viewpoint ( I'm in whats left of Biloxi) lodging WILL be the biggest problem, most of the hotels are still full of relief workers, All the beach hotels are gone, period.  but the Beau Rivage will be opening in August, and other casinos should have rooms.  Many nice local rods were destroyed here, including my 31 Roadster, (which you may have seen in FEB 06 Streetrodder Mag showing what Katrina did to it), and a chopped, channeled and sectioned 41 chevy pickup I was building for a friend, but we are bouncing back, and getting the savable rods going.  Now that my house and shop are nearly back together, I am back on my roadster, salvaging the good pieces and going from there....amazing what 7 feet of salt water can do to your shop!

Spoke to a friend of mine last week who is now livng in florida and he said they canceled his homeowners insurance. Reason.. Hurricanes? How bout you guys ?

Mike, I read your letter in the magazine. I am in the West central part of the state in Vicksburg. Have you ever been to the Father's Day rod runs that the MSRA put on around Jackson? I'm wandering if our paths have crossed before.

Hi Al, Pretty much have been staying local here for rod runs, course haven't done anything rod related since Katrina.  Thankfully my 37 slantback was not in my shop and didnt get damaged, I did finally get it out today for the first time in 7 months.  I plan to put a/c in it shortly and start driving it a bit further. Its flat black with old torq thrust wheels, if you see me give me a holler.

N8DC, I believe the Insurance commissioner for MS is preventing any ins company from selective dropping of coverage.  I was treated fairly by State Farm, even though I had no flood insurance (I was no where near a flood plain....then!) but I have many friends that are in a bad way with losses.
