OK guys.  I need some imput.  My wife and I are throwing a party for my inlaws 35th anniversary.  I am trying to get a list of songs together that they would like/know.  I need some mellow stuff for dinner and some other for dancing.  I would ask them mysef, but its a suprise.

So they were 18 when they got married, and it was 35 years ago, 1971.  Since I am only 27, I dont know what was big them, late 60s early 70s

They like rock and roll, not Disco.
Any suggestions?

thanks!

OK, just to nail the time down I went out and looked at my 8 track collection. Here are some artists that might throw you in the right direction. Cat Stevens, Elton John, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Bob segar, Carly Simon, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton,  and Meat Loaf. For groups look at the Eagles, Doobie Brothers, Three Dog Night. Bachman Turner Overdrive, REO Speedwagon and maybe Jethro Tull. Chances are they still have that music laying around but don't listen to it anymore. Have your wife go through their attic when they're not home. GPster

Cool.  I know they really like Jethro Tull.

Keem em coming boys,  I need 5-7 hours of music!

I think I just have the one 8 track of Jethro Tull but in the early 70s my brother stayed with us and brought his collection of Tull with him. When he went back home he left them and I probably have 7 hours of them in vinyl. You think us old people can stay awake for 7 hours? GPster

For a soft and mellow song for dinner for a couple that have stayed together for 35 years try the song titled "IF"  sung by a group called BREAD.  It was a favorite of mine when Gail and I were going together in the early 70s ,used to write mushy letters back and forth when I was in college and wrote the words to the song to her in one of them in 73 and married her in 74.  See if you can find a copy of it and listen close to the words, I think the in-laws would like it!!   Bill

You will be a hero with your mother-in-law if you play "Maggie Mae" by Rod Stewart.  The gals used to love that song.  Also, "Daniel" and "My Song" by Elton John.

your number one job is to find out what THEIR song was.
or if you can find out what song was played for the first dance at their wedding. it prolly will be the same.

after dinner and for the first dance IT NEEDS to be played.

after that just play the songs/artists above and you'll be fine.
