http://www.ms-sra.org/msra/2006events.htm is where you can find a listing of car shows to attend in 2006. Mostly in the state of Mississippi, but some are outside of the state.

We had a planning meeting the other day where car clubs and a few individuals got together and told the group of around 60 folks about car shows they were putting on this year. Someone said that back in the mid-'70's there was only 3 car shows to go to in the area and they went to all 3 of them and thought they had done something. Now look at the list...some weekends have three or four things on them and you have to decide which one to attend.

The meeting started out (years ago) with just street rodders attending and then spread out to include more folks as the years went by. We have established a Street Rodder Hall of Fame for Mississippi and each year we vote some new names into it. Another thing that happens at this meeting is a Street Rodder of the Year winner is announced. Leading up to the meeting (a few months earlier) a letter is sent out to area car clubs asking for votes for that award. Then they are tallied up and the winner gets a jacket, shirt, & a plaque. It's the top honor in street rodding in the state.

A professor at Ole Miss is doing a study on car shows in America. He got a grant to take the semester off and travel to car shows to get people to fill out surveys. What a life!
A street rod is a vehicle made before 1949 that is modified with modern stuff: bigger motors; newer trans; updated suspension, front & rear; a/c.

One of my favorite shows/cruises of couse is the "Cruise the Coast" and I know the coast is devastated......and I just heard that it will take a few years to get back to ANY sense of normalacy...... any news on that show?

I would suppose that the hotels have to be rebuilt and casinos before another one is even planned?

Anyone?

The Cruisin' the Coast folks (a board made up of about 13 car clubs on the Coast) are looking into having a smaller version of the event this year, maybe. They are in the planning mode right now. If anyone registered for the 2005 event, they can either ask for their money back or keep it there so whenever they do have another one, they are still registered. The 10th Anniversary T-shirts were bought before the hurricane hit and they are just saving them until the next event to use then. http://www.cruisinthecoast.com/ for more info.

Yes, it is going to take a long time to get things back in order across that area. On Feb. 18th, there will be an event to raise money for Coast folks. Cruisers Helping Cruisers - Verona, MS. The contact is Allen McDaniel 662-213-8873.

Yes, it is! This year I hope to have my car there. I drove my '40 to around 6 car shows in 2005. Went to several ones without it while it was down for three months (March, April, May). Had it pre-registered for two of those that it was not at. I was happy to get it back on the road in May. Newton, MS is where I got the bad gas in the tank the first weekend of March. As I was driving home from Louisville in August, had to go by the town of Newton on the interstate...how do I say it? My car does not like that place. Got a flyer about this year's show in the mail from the folks in Newton...I didn't show it to my car! I'll be at another car show that day.
