I have some galvanized  corragated material I need to 'age' a bit.

Is it the cheap liquid  pool acid that will turn the galvanized  coating white ???  Kinda eat the galvanized  coating  off the steel??

Sulfuric acid will do it. You can buy it at the local home build it centers. This is what brick layers use to wash down the brick on houses to remove any motar on the bricks.  Thin it down with some water, like gallon of water to 1/4 cup to start. Might want to do it outside alsoif you can with lots of air. Might try vinegar too but it won't be as aggressive. Rinse it with clear water to neutralize it after you are done.

I think they use muradic acid. I'm sure sulfuric acid would do it but nasty stuff.

And if you do dilute it remember to add the acid to the waer not the water to the acid. Safer that way. When you put water into acid you can get a violent reaction.

Yes Mike you are right, it should be muradic acid. Had one of those senior moments.

Don't know if they sell sulfuric acid at the box stores.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Sulfuric acid is in some drain cleaner. WARNING never mix drain cleaner. If you use one brand in your drain, do not use a different brand on top of it.

Straight Muriatic Acid, used to treat swimming pools, will remove Galvanizing.

Diluted Muriating acid may give the effect you are looking for.
Do a test with a mild solution,perhaps in a spray bottle.Increase
strength as required.

Splattering the panel with grey paint may also help.

Might have to cover it in plastic,to keep it wet,
for the Vinegar to work properly.

the vinegar sat on the metal for near 1 hour.  The liquid turned a white colour.

the galv coating on the metal seems unchanged.

tomorrrow I use  acid

Just send it up here and I'll throw it out by the road where the salt trucks and the slush will age it pretty quick.  It seems to work pretty good on our cars.

Rinse it with clear water to neutralize it after you are done.
Neutralise sulphuric acid with baking (or bicarbonate) soda, water will only dilute it.
Im nobody, right?

I am testing some "Easy Off" oven cleaner on themetal.  I doubt much will happen

As most of you guys may remember the "Easy Off" oven cleaner was waaaay more toxic years ago. When used the kids and small animals had to stay outside for hours.
