We have purchased 2.2 acres of land in the Show Low AZ area.

We will build a house there and move to Show Low  for retirement.  Currently Retirement is 7+ years down the road.  It could get longer , not sooner.. dammit

The work shop I build there will be larger than what I have here in Gilbert.

That's right.  Colder even than Blanding   .  I guess I'll have a reason now to go back to the Pinetop Show  :D  and now you will be closer and might make it up here  .

Small world.  One of my favorite little trucking companies is in Show Low.  From the description of the owners it sounds like a great place.

I've been watching the temps and checking past history of the weather in the area.

It seems I will adjust to it.

Shop size would be better if it was smaller , easier to heat.

basically I am done with Phoenix as soon as I can retire .  Too many people here , too many problems related to the growth.

After a year or so you will wonder how you ever survived the summers in the "valley of the sun".  I often wonder how I survived the winters of Wyoming for 20+ years   .

Put a greenhouse on the side of it like I did and you can make it as large as you want.  I only used the wood burning stove about 6 times last winter.  The greenhouse keeps it just right during the day.

if you get tired of the "scenery" come visit us in LHC . We are almost done with the house but will not move there for 3 yrs.( waiting on the MRS. to retire)In the meantime , if you don't know already prices for constr  material are going sky high the latest blame is The hurricanes  but it might settle in a few years. Ill be out for a few weeks in Jan, beats the weather here in Upstate NY.I totally agree about Phoenix  I don't fly into it anymore , rather fly to Vegas and go to Lake Havasu that way.  Serge

Better if smaller-easier to heat--I thought Arizona was warm all the time.
A big shop is still never big enough after it is built. :D

Tony is going from 1000 feet to 6000 feet (colder up there).  He'll need oxygen the first year or so

My Garmin 2610 GPS tells me the altitude here at my home is about 1280..... the altitude at our lot we bought,  it shows about 4800 feet.

The lot is north of Show Low about 12 miles.

With that kind of difference be careful about using your shop as a model for the next one. Snow weight on the roof may call for a steeper pitch which may be something you might want to hire to have put on. The structure may also need more interior braces to support the roof. Also a heat pump used to be figured as only being efficient down to about 35 degrees and below that you had to use heating strips to get enough heat. Also keep in mind that your idea to move out of Phoenix might be a popular move and by the time you get there you may be part of a community that doesn't want big shops in their eyesite. Start building now so you can be "Grandfathered" into the restictions. GPster
