I think they're cool if done right, I'm dealin on a Dodge that is titled as a 44, and I have a 39 and 46 convential cab Dodges that will be made into haulers when I get my 40 2dr done. Bill

I have a 50 chevy COE, and an 85 P30 chassis to put the 50 cab on.

What is a P30?

This thing I got has a 454/turbo 400 and a GM tilt wheel. I assume the rest of the suspension/running gear is GM, but the body certainly is not.

I'm torn between a COE car hauler, and a big dually pickup using my '47 Chevy.

A P30 is a forward control chassis GM built for motor homes and custom bodied step vans. First cousin to a C30, but there are elements of a G30 there too. The rear axle is narrower on a P30 than either a G30 or C30, and it has a massive sway bar on the rear.

I like cabovers..I would like to find a nice '50 White COE..to build a car hauler out of. I saw one in Louisville a couple yrs ago that had been stretched as well and it was awesome.

That's interesting. It suggests to me that this is the correct rear to use if I wanted to make a dually out of a 47-54 Chevy pickup. Its probably still too wide, but not as bad as the other choices.

There is more than 12" difference. If you want to convert a 47 to 54 to a dually, start with a 3/4 ton frame, then get the rear end, springs, and hangers from the P30 chassis, drill some holes, and bolt the whole mess on, the frame is the same width, 34"
