I've never seen a frame that rusted away before!

That cab looks just like a '54/early '55.  Did you get a title? Maybe the title says '48 and someone replaced the '48 cab with a '54 cab.  Looks good.  I have a '54.  I think the cabs looked better with the one piece windshield, but the front end sheet metal was too big and gawky.  Good luck with the new project.
